A doorbell camera captured a home exploding in Hayward, California, on December 11, sending six people to the hospital and destroying three buildings. The blast happened at 9:38 a.m. in the 800 block of Lewelling Boulevard, where street construction crews had accidentally struck a gas line around 7:30 a.m. PG and E crews reported fixing the line about two hours later, but the house across the street exploded shortly after they left the area. The video was recorded by Brittany and Christian Maldonado, who live nearby. Christian Maldonado told KTVU, "It was like a scene from Hollywood. It was unreal." Two of the injured were street workers, and all six were taken to Eden Medical Center. Three were listed in serious condition, according to Alameda County fire officials. Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board and PG and E are probing why the area was not evacuated. Deputy Chief Ryan Nishimoto said crews detected no gas earlier, a conclusion others now question.
