A walrus penis bone was stolen last week from Donkey’s Place on Haddon Avenue in Camden, New Jersey. The bar is famous for cheesesteaks once praised by Anthony Bourdain. Owner Rob Lucas Jr said the antique walrus baculum has sat behind the bar for decades. The oddity lived beside a megalodon tooth and other artifacts that sparked constant questions. Lucas said bartenders often let customers handle the bone and guess its identity. During one interaction, a man took advantage. “She went to the back to do something else and then one dude stole it,” Lucas said. Donkey’s Place posted a TikTok on New Year’s Eve showing the bartender involved and a photo of the alleged thief. “I wasn’t thinking that they would do something like this,” she said. “Not the same without it.” The man paid with a credit card, but Lucas said the bar has no plans to press charges. “We didn’t want to file a police report or anything like that,” he said. “We just want the thing back.” Until then, Camden’s most unusual bar conversation piece is missing. The cheesesteaks remain, but the walrus has left the building.
