An asylum seeker says he won a $1,250 slot jackpot at Ballys temporary casino in downtown Chicago but has not been paid weeks later. The win happened on December 20 at the River North location. The man, identified only as Nick, said jackpots are usually paid within minutes. Instead, more than a week passed with no payment and no clear explanation from the casino. Nick said he presented a valid limited term REAL ID issued by Illinois to immigrants with legal status. He said he has used the same ID to cash 11 previous jackpots without any issue. "This time, however, they decided to not pay off, because of my limited term ID, and I've always had that kind of ID," Nick told CBS News Chicago. He said the money "would mean a lot, especially now for the holidays." Gaming consultant Elihu Feustel said a REAL ID is normally sufficient to cash a jackpot anywhere in the United States. He noted limited term IDs are often harder to obtain than standard drivers licenses. Ballys declined to comment on the case or share its policy on limited term REAL IDs. For now, the jackpot remains locked, turning a routine casino win into an unresolved standoff.
