Dilly Dally the Sea Turtle Returns, Three Flippers Strong, to Florida Waves

Dilly Dally, the adolescent loggerhead sea turtle, crawled into the Atlantic Ocean at Juno Beach, Florida, just months after losing a flipper to predator wounds and surviving surgery. Crowds cheered as she scooted across the sand, her shell now sporting a live satellite tag for public tracking. “Every time we can release a turtle back into the wild is special,” said a veterinary technician from Loggerhead Marinelife Center.
After stormy weather nearly delayed her release, Dilly Dally was carried to the high-tide line and set loose, her three-fin crawl drawing cheers from beachgoers. Thanks to a Smithsonian-partnered satellite tracker, the world can now follow her journey—no one really knows what three-flipper turtles do next, making this a win for science and sea turtle fans alike.
Loggerhead Marinelife Center and the Smithsonian teamed up to tag Dilly Dally, making her one of the first three-flipper turtles the public can track in real time.
