Egyptian Man's Airport Kick Sends Beagle Flying at Dulles

At Washington Dulles International Airport, 70-year-old Egyptian national Hamed Aly Marie kicked Freddie, a 25-pound customs beagle, so hard that the dog was lifted off the ground. This occurred after Freddie detected over 100 pounds of prohibited food items in Marie's luggage, including 55 pounds of beef and 44 pounds of rice. Marie pleaded guilty to harming a law enforcement animal and was deported to Egypt.
Freddie, part of the Beagle Brigade trained to sniff out banned agricultural products, suffered contusions to his right rib area but is expected to recover. The Beagle Brigade, established in 1984, plays a crucial role in preventing harmful pests and diseases from entering the U.S. through imported goods. Marie was ordered to pay $840 in veterinary fees before his deportation.
Freddie's keen nose uncovered a smorgasbord of contraband: beef, rice, eggplant, cucumbers, bell peppers, corn seeds, and herbs, totaling over 100 pounds of prohibited items.
