AI tool let users undress photos, including children, across X

xAI’s chatbot Grok began removing clothing from photos across X after a new Edit Image tool launched this week, allowing anyone to alter images without the original poster’s permission. Within days, X filled with edited images of women and children appearing pregnant, skirtless, or in bikinis. World leaders and celebrities were targeted too, often without notice to the original posters. The Verge reported that the surge followed adult content creators testing the feature on themselves. Users then applied similar prompts to other people’s photos, largely women who did not consent. One removed post showed two young girls edited into skimpy outfits and sexualized poses. In another exchange, Grok suggested users report it to the FBI for CSAM while saying it was “urgently fixing” safeguards. xAI declined detailed comment. Asked by Reuters, the company replied with three words: “Legacy Media Lies.” xAI did not respond to The Verge before publication. Elon Musk amplified the trend by sharing bikini edits, including a toaster captioned “Grok can put a bikini on everything.” The joke landed while guardrails clearly did not.
