Italian man wore a wig for 3 years to steal pension

Italian police have charged a 57 year old man after he posed as his dead mother to keep collecting her pension in Borgo Virgilio, near the northern city of Mantua. Investigators believe Graziella Dall’Oglio died of natural causes at age 82. Her son never reported her death and kept her body inside the family home for three years. During that time, authorities say the man continued collecting her pension without raising suspicion. The scheme collapsed earlier this month when her expired ID had to be renewed in person. Security cameras showed the man driving to the registry office, even though Graziella never drove. He arrived wearing a wig, makeup, jewelry, nail polish, and women’s clothes. Staff grew suspicious after noticing dark hair on the neck, hands, and chin. Police later found Graziella’s mummified body hidden in a closet, wrapped in two sleeping bags. Investigators say the former nurse drained fluids from the body to slow decomposition. Prosecutors estimate he lived on about €53,000 a year and now faces fraud and concealment charges.
