At Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, the emergence of Brood 14 cicadas has transformed thrilling roller coaster rides into unexpected insect encounters. Visitors are advised to keep their mouths closed during rides to prevent accidental cicada ingestion. Dr. Gene Kritsky from Mount St. Joseph University notes, 'This brood, Brood 14, was first seen by the pilgrims in 1634.'

The cicada invasion has led to amusing incidents, with riders finding the insects hitching rides on their clothing. One visitor shared, 'He loves all things bugs and earth, but when it comes to the cicadas, I don't know if it's the legs or the noises that they make; it creeps him out.'

In 2004, visitors reported cicadas flying all over the park and waterpark, with dead ones in the water and on the ground, creating a unique challenge for both guests and park staff.
