Louie the otter, missing from Green Bay’s New Zoo since a March 20 snowstorm, has officially gone rogue. Despite 77 days of search efforts, the elusive river otter—born wild—evaded every trap and sighting, prompting the zoo to announce, “He has made the decision to be a wild otter.”

Ophelia, Louie’s fellow escapee, was recaptured by April 2, but Louie remains at large, thriving in Wisconsin waterways. The zoo, citing multiple reported sightings, believes Louie is “healthy and surviving well.” Officials are now seeking a new mate for Ophelia, as Louie’s wild streak shows no sign of ending.

Louie has never been reported in the same yard or waterway twice—making his recapture virtually impossible and cementing his legend as Green Bay’s most elusive otter.
