Louie the Otter Escapes Wisconsin Zoo, Declares Himself Wild and Free

Louie the otter, missing from Green Bayâs New Zoo since a March 20 snowstorm, has officially gone rogue. Despite 77 days of search efforts, the elusive river otterâborn wildâevaded every trap and sighting, prompting the zoo to announce, âHe has made the decision to be a wild otter.â
Ophelia, Louieâs fellow escapee, was recaptured by April 2, but Louie remains at large, thriving in Wisconsin waterways. The zoo, citing multiple reported sightings, believes Louie is âhealthy and surviving well.â Officials are now seeking a new mate for Ophelia, as Louieâs wild streak shows no sign of ending.
Louie has never been reported in the same yard or waterway twiceâmaking his recapture virtually impossible and cementing his legend as Green Bayâs most elusive otter.
