McRib lawsuit claims iconic sandwich contains zero actual rib meat

McDonald’s is facing a federal class action lawsuit claiming the McRib contains no actual rib meat. The complaint was filed December 23 in Illinois federal court. The 45 page lawsuit was brought by Peter Le, Charles Lynch, Dorien Baker, and Derrick Wilson. It argues the McRib name and rib shaped patty mislead reasonable consumers. According to the filing, the sandwich is made from restructured pork using cuts like shoulder and stomach. The plaintiffs say none of those qualify as rib meat. The lawsuit lists 16 claims including fraud and consumer protection violations. It seeks to cover anyone who bought a McRib in the past four years. McDonald’s disputes the accusations. A spokesperson told The Independent the sandwich uses 100 percent boneless pork and said, “This lawsuit distorts the facts.” The McRib averaged $5.63 in December 2024 and reached $7.89 in some locations. The case argues the rib illusion came at a premium price.
