Amber the Retriever Cross Swims 1 Mile, Returns After 100-Mile Escape

Amber, a five-year-old retriever cross, vanished from Bramshaw and trekked 100 miles across Hampshire and Dorset, even swimming 1 mile to Brownsea Island. The adventurous dog dodged 63 sightings before a ferry crew, thinking she was a seal, rescued her after 36 days.
Declared fit by a vet despite losing significant weight, Amber’s journey included nightly food drops on Brownsea Island and a dramatic rescue after she hooked her paws onto a ferry ladder. “She wasn’t going to make it,” said crew mate Ethan Grant, recalling the surreal scene.
Amber had been rescued from the streets of Qatar and survived 36 days on the run, fooling cameras, scaling 8ft fences, and drawing over 63 sightings across two counties.
