In 2020, Coty Hazelett, then a correctional sergeant at Vilas County Jail, resigned after admitting to taking five rolls of toilet paper. He returned four and offered to reimburse the fifth, stating, 'As a supervisor, I should have known better.'

Despite this, Hazelett was rehired at Vilas County Jail and later joined Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office in 2023. This raises questions about hiring practices amid staffing shortages in law enforcement.

Ironically, the man once caught for pilfering toilet paper now oversees its distribution, ensuring no roll goes unaccounted for.
