Thai fortune teller allegedly stole phone to prove bad luck

Police in Pattaya arrested a Thai fortune teller accused of stealing a teenager’s phone to make his own bad luck prophecy come true on January 1. The 38 year old man was offering readings outside a temple in Pattaya around 6am when a 19 year old woman named Pim asked for a fortune. He warned Pim she faced imminent misfortune and would lose something valuable, then urged her to pay money to avert the bad luck, according to local reports. After Pim refused, she soon noticed her iPhone 13 Pro was missing. She said she had placed it beside her during the reading and returned to confront the fortune teller. The man insisted the disappearance proved his prediction and even described what the supposed thief looked like. Pim grew suspicious and alerted people nearby, Khaosod reported. Police later found the phone inside his bag, hidden in a box meant for face masks. He was detained at Pattaya City Police Station, and the phone was returned to Pim.
