A 440 pound boulder prop rolled off course during a live Indiana Jones show at Disney World on December 31, striking a cast member onstage in Bay Lake, Florida. The incident happened at the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular inside Hollywood Studios as the massive prop moved toward the audience during the finale reenactment of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Video posted online shows the 12 foot diameter boulder bouncing like a yoga ball, leaving its ramp and launching onto the open stage, reaching about 10 feet high. A cast member ran in front of the prop to block it from the crowd. The boulder bounced again to about 6 feet before hitting him and knocking him backward onto the floor. Disney said the employee was able to stand with help and is recovering. A spokesperson said, “Safety is at the heart of what we do, and that element of the show will be modified.” The 25 minute stunt show first opened in 1989 and returned in 2022 after a long pause. This time, the most realistic moment was not in the script.
