An Illinois woman is accused of setting baby cribs on fire inside a Walmart in Woodstock on December 31 while the store was packed with shoppers. Authorities say 21 year old Adilyn Monette entered the Walmart at 1275 Lake Ave. around 7:20 p.m. She allegedly grabbed camping fuel, returned twice, and poured it over multiple cribs. Police say surveillance video shows Monette lighting the cribs with matches and walking out. The fire started in the infant section near the back of the store. Managers estimated more than $5,000,000 in losses from damaged merchandise and the building itself. An automatic sprinkler system extinguished the flames as firefighters evacuated customers. Monette is charged with aggravated arson and was denied pretrial release. Prosecutors said she also faces a pending arson case in Colorado while on supervised release. McHenry County State's Attorney Randi Freese said, "Despite there being a full store of customers when this arson was committed, we are grateful for the swift actions" that kept everyone safe.
