Brussels' Atomium, a 102-meter structure of nine stainless steel spheres, closed early on June 30 and July 1 due to internal temperatures exceeding 30°C amid a 38°C heatwave. Visitors holding online tickets can use them anytime until the end of 2025.

This marks only the second time in its history that the Atomium has closed due to heat, the first being in 2019. The stainless steel spheres, designed to represent an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times, become heat traps during extreme temperatures.

Despite the closures, the Atomium remains Belgium's most popular tourist attraction, having welcomed over 10 million visitors since its 2006 reopening.
