On 23 December 1975, a Cardiff couple opened their door to a homeless man carrying a bin bag and a frozen chicken. That Christmas invitation turned into a 45 year stay. Rob Parsons, then 27, and his wife Dianne, 26, recognised the man as Ronnie Lockwood from Sunday School. Rob asked about the chicken, then said the words that changed everything. "Come in." Ronnie Lockwood was autistic and had been homeless since age 15, drifting around Cardiff. The couple cooked his chicken, gave him a bath and planned to host him for Christmas only. When the holiday ended, they could not ask him to leave. A homeless centre told them Ronnie needed a job for an address, and an address for a job, a Catch 22 they saw up close. Ronnie stayed as the family grew, helping raise their children and keeping careful routines. He emptied the dishwasher every morning and bought the same Marks and Spencer gift cards each Christmas. Rob later wrote that Ronnie often asked, "Have I done a bad thing?" He never had. One knock at the door quietly rewrote 45 years of ordinary life.
