Perth Vet Crafts New Exit for Tooshie, Anus-Free Cavoodle

Tooshie, a 5-week-old cavoodle puppy born without an anus, was surrendered to Warwick Veterinary Hospital in Perth after exhibiting vomiting and bloating. Diagnosed with atresia ani—a rare congenital defect where the anus is absent—Tooshie underwent emergency surgery to create a functional anal opening, a procedure essential for survival in such cases.
Despite the rarity of atresia ani in dogs, with breeds like poodles and Boston terriers more commonly affected, Tooshie's case underscores the critical need for prompt surgical intervention. The veterinary team initiated a GoFundMe campaign, raising nearly $11,000, surpassing the initial $8,000 goal, to cover the costs of Tooshie's surgery and ongoing care.
Remarkably, Tooshie survived five weeks without defecating, a testament to the resilience of puppies facing congenital anomalies like atresia ani.
