Tulsa Cart Repo program, launched with $100K, has wrangled 1,917 stray Walmart trolleys from 40 stores across the city. Abandoned carts now gather at Mohawk Park, with Cart Repo reselling them for $15–$20 each—far less than their $150 new price. “We’re not getting any,” laments Tulsa’s streets director.

Since December, Cart Repo’s $100K mission has made shopping carts nearly extinct on Tulsa’s sidewalks. Most retailers refuse to buy back their own carts, leaving Tulsa to foot the bill. Metal carts may be recycled, but plastic ones linger—like wild herds awaiting a new prairie.

Reasor’s is the only store so far to buy back its recovered carts; others flatly refuse.
