David Serkin, a cancer survivor from Lethbridge, Alberta, has defied astronomical odds by winning the lottery four times over the past decade, amassing a total of $2.75 million. His latest triumph was a $1 million prize from the May 3 LOTTO 6/49 Classic draw, marking his third win in less than nine months. Serkin's previous victories include $500,000 on the August 20, 2024, LOTTO MAX draw and another $1 million on the November 16, 2024, LOTTO 6/49 draw. Reflecting on his incredible streak, Serkin remarked, “I know the odds are astronomical. I don’t think it’ll happen again, but I still like buying tickets.”

Despite the staggering odds—1 in 33,294,800 for the LOTTO MAX jackpot—Serkin's persistence has paid off remarkably. A dedicated player since LOTTO 6/49's inception in 1982, he enjoys the routine of purchasing and checking tickets. “You check your ticket and if you win, you’re happy,” he explained. “If you don’t, you can always try again.” His wife is equally astonished by their good fortune, and the couple has used their winnings to create cherished memories, including a trip to Hawaii. Next on their list: a visit to Newfoundland. Perhaps their next vacation will be to the moon, if their luck continues.

Serkin's winning ticket was purchased at Shell Lethbridge at 2440 Fairway Plaza Road S, adding a local twist to his extraordinary luck.
