A 23-year-old man, after missing his Spirit Airlines flight from Detroit to Los Angeles, called in a false bomb threat hoping to delay the plane long enough for him to board. This hoax led to passengers being evacuated, interviewed, and re-screened, resulting in a six-hour delay. The FBI traced the call through phone records and arrested the man when he returned to the airport for another flight.

The man admitted to making the call to avoid taking a different flight. U.S. Attorney Jerome Gorgon Jr. condemned the act, stating it undermines public security and wastes law enforcement resources. The incident highlights the severe consequences of false threats in aviation.

The flight, originally scheduled to depart Thursday morning, was delayed by six hours due to the false bomb threat, causing significant disruption for passengers and airport operations.
